Marriage License Information
6 Months Validity Period
Marriage licenses in South Carolina are valid for 6 months from the date of issuance. This gives you a reasonable window to plan your ceremony while ensuring documentation remains current.
Requirements
Both parties must appear together at the Probate Court to apply for a marriage license. You'll need to present valid identification and pay the applicable fee, which varies by county.
Statewide Recognition
Once issued, your marriage license is valid within any county in South Carolina.

Waiting Period
There is a mandatory 24 - 48 hour waiting period after the application is submitted before the license can be issued.
Return Completed License
After your ceremony, ensure the signed license is returned to the Probate Court where it was issued within 15 days. This finalizes the legal documentation of your marriage.
